چکیده

Umbelliferone, Quantitative Estimation, Picea abies, Genetic Families A compound showing blue fluorescence under UV-light was isolated from spruce needles and identified as umbelliferone. Structure analysis was based on UV and mass spectroscopy as well as chromatographic comparison with authentic material. Quantitative evaluation by direct measure ment of the fluorescence of the umbelliferone spot separated by TLC revealed that the umbelliferone content shows great variation within different individual trees ranging from 0.42-42 (ig/g fresh weight. Only minute amounts are present as free umbelliferone while the abundant part is present as /?-glucoside.

Peroxidase activity, soluble proteins and chlorophyll content in spruce (.Picea abies L. Karst.) needles affected by cement dust

The correlation between the peroxidase activity, chlorophyll and soluble protein content as well as the changes in vascular bundle structure in Norway spruce (Picea abies L. Karst.) needles affected by cement dust were studied. In spite of the absence of any yellowing symptoms, a significantly lower chlorophyll con tent was measured in spruce needles affected by cement dust. Observed sieve cel...

The hydraulic conductivity of the xylem in conifer needles (Picea abies and Pinus mugo).

Main resistances of the plant water transport system are situated in leaves. In contrast to angiosperm leaves, knowledge of conifer needle hydraulics and of the partitioning of resistances within needles is poor. A new technique was developed which enabled flow-meter measurements through needles embedded in paraffin and thus quantification of the specific hydraulic conductivity (K(s)) of the ne...

Ascorbic Acid and Chlorophyll Content in Cell Cultures of Spruce (Picea abies): Changes by Cell Culture Conditions and Air Pollutants

Conifers contain ascorbic acid which is probably a protective against oxidative attacks. In yellow needles of damaged conifers the ascorbic acid content is increased, this suggests an in duction by air pollutants and/or photooxidants of a protection mechanism in trees. To study this mechanism in more detail, a green cell suspension culture of spruce (Picea abies) has been established. These ce...

Seasonal Changes in the Activities of Apoplastic, Cytoplasmic, Ionically and Covalently Bound Isoperoxidases from Norway Spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) Needles: A Comparison between Three Collection Sites with Different Ambient Ozone Concentrations

Apoplastic, cytoplasmic, ionically and covalently bound isoperoxidases were investigated from needles o f Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) and a pronounced genetic variability o f the isoenzyme pattern was found. The enzymatic activity o f each group o f isoperoxidases was determined between November 1989 to November 1990 from needles o f three locations (Velmerstot, Glindfeld, Haltern) ...

Metabolite changes in conifer buds and needles during forced bud break in Norway spruce (Picea abies) and European silver fir (Abies alba)

Environmental changes such as early spring and warm spells induce bud burst and photosynthetic processes in cold-acclimated coniferous trees and consequently, cellular metabolism in overwintering needles and buds. The purpose of the study was to examine metabolism in conifers under forced deacclimation (artificially induced spring) by exposing shoots of Picea abies (boreal species) and Abies al...
